I’m usually not one to rave about software (or anything blogging/computer related) immediately whenever I stumble upon something good. Normally, I’d let it run… observe it a little… wait for the kinks and bugs to come out and ultimately give my take on it. If it isn’t news worthy, then I won’t blog about it… the last time I actually blogged about a software that really blew me away was “Windows Live Writer”… and that was even long before Wordpress.com started endorsing it’s wonderful features. That was way back January 26, 2007.
Well, since I recently made the BIG leap from using a Wordpress.com hosted blog over to a self-hosted incarnation of it, I have tried hundreds of plugins to further enhance my new found blogging freedom. And one of the plugins I so desperately sought for was a really good and comprehensive statistics monitor.
Believe me… I’ve tried a whole bunch of ‘em… “Cystat”, “Slimstat”, “Wassup”, “Statpress”, “Wordpress.com Stats” and whole lot more! Then I recently discovered, “FIRESTATS”! It’s just plain “great”! Simple to install, (easier than reading a children’s book!) easily configurable, and what’s best is that you need not tinker with your template files at all! It even adds 2 new optional widgets to your dashboard’s widget section should you wish to display your “Popular Pages” and “Pages Displayed/Unique Visitors” on your blog.
Don’t take my word for it… give it a spin. I’m pretty sure you’ll never want to uninstall it from your plugins directory after realizing how cool it is. No need for high-speed broadband internet with Cat6 peripherals… a simple dial-up will suffice.
You can even check out a working demo of the plugin HERE.
Whadya waiting for…? Try it out on your own Wordpress blog right now!
Oh… they have 2 different files for download: The “stable” version (1.3.6-stable) and a newer “beta” version (1.4.2-beta). I immediately installed the latest “beta” version and it works perfectly! The plugin’s filesize is approximately 1MB, but it’s worth it.
Fire away, guys!
