Pirated DVDsTonight, I thank the Lord for another opportunity for me to prove my faith and trust in Him.

Earlier, I gave up and surrendered ALL of my pirated DVD and VCD movies.  You might think that “all” means a few of ‘em sitting amongst a collection of original copies.  But in reality, it’s the other way around…!  There are merely a few originals (about a handful) sitting amongst close to a thousand pirated DVDs in a dedicated cabinet for it.

I took all of them out and was suddenly at awe as to how many bootleg (but very good) copies I was actually able to gather in 4-5 years.

And it’s NO joke… I loved adored my collection… I used to scour the entire metropolis just to look for the highest quality (DVD copy; 5.1 audio) pirated movies.  Ask my wife… she can attest as to how obsessed I was with my illegal library.  I’d rather buy discs than spend money on important clothing or food.  That was then.

Anyway, I packed these discs in big plastic bags (I wasn’t able to obtain cardboard boxes)… and soon after, my wife started scouring her stuff for fake clothing and accessories which she also wanted to give up.

My kids soon followed… and to my amazement, they happily surrendered their China-made fake toys and other stuff.

I packed them all in the car and took it to our community’s home base for proper disposal.  The bootlegged discs will be destroyed and the bags, clothing and accessories will most likely be given to indigents and the needy.

This is a very BIG step for our family towards being totally and unconditionally righteous.

We vowed that from now on, we shall NEVER EVER patronize anything fake…!

Praise God for giving my family the courage to follow through and do what is right in order to be pleasing in the sight of the Lord.  I thank Him for making my children understand the purpose of it all.

I’m pretty certain that I’ll be able to find a few more unwanted stuff sitting around the house which I might’ve overlooked during earlier’s cleanup but I’ll be sure to gather all of what’s left and have them disposed of properly.

We are finally FREE of these things… All praise and glory to God!

wow chucks, it is hard to give those things up but if you stick with what you believe in, it would only get better. what a start to the new year. the kids got to pack their dolls and toys too - we are sending them to manila in time for our vacation. i want the kids to be exposed to orphanage or charity houses, to know that there are other lives out there, they would be with me when we bring those things to their chosen house in need. sana lahat ng taong dumaan sa showbiz e kapareho mo ng ugali, hindi nalilimutan na may ibang buhay, na may ibang nangangailangan, na pwedeng maging paraan para sa ikagaganda ng buhay ng ibang tao. manigong bagong taon chucks.

Hey there! Yeah… I never thought I’d be able to give up these “worldly” and unjust materials. But I guess everything comes with spiritual maturity. I have gathered enough trust and faith in the Lord and developed a deep personal relationship with Him that enabled me to surrender these objects easily.

It’s good that you are enlightening your children to the realities of life. It’s not enough to support a charity… to regularly donate money, clothes, toys, etc to a foundation… People MUST go out of their way to see the actual conditions of these brothers and sisters of ours. We must feel their pain and share a part of ourselves to them.

Our pain is what causes us to pray to the Lord more powerfully. May God bless you too, Kengks!

May God touch a lot of lives through you. A faith-filled new year to you! :)

wow!huge feat! now i am inspired to follow suit - no more fake dvds! tsk, tsk, bye to my House, desperate housewives, lost, grey’s anatomy, and other filipino collections. I hope orig. dvds would be cheaper.

And I applaud you for giving to charity - fake or not - almost everything naman is from China made na. THis is one lesson I have to teach my kids - giving.

Happy new year to you and the whole family! Keep it up!

Hey there! Yeah… but you know what, I never would’ve thought I’d be able to accomplish such a feat… like I said, it comes with spiritual maturity and “total surrender” to the Lord’s will.

Yes, I used to have all those DVD series. House, Smallville, Desperate Housewives, Greys Anatomy, Heroes, Nip/Tuck, CSI (LV, Miami & NY), Lost, 24, name it it WAS there.

I even had a whole bunch of DVD movies in a separate shelf which I haven’t watched yet.

Teach your kids to give… only in giving are we able to receive. Only in emptying ourselves are we made ready to be filled with the Lord’s blessings. Only in humbling ourselves are we truly raised up.

Such are the teachings of God. May you and your family dedicate yourselves to a life of thanksgiving to the Lord.

A faith-filled new year to you! God bless.

    nO!!! how could you!!!! NO!!!!

Just joking. I think I will follow in your footsteps once I get a job. For now it is impractical for me to do that.

Good job chuck! Anyway, You shaved your head?? Great! It suits you. You look leaner, more “manly” hehehe.

Its good that you destroyed the pirated things. It reminds me of a sermon my pastor preached. A thing that causes sin even if thrown away will always cause sin:

His case in point a father repented of buying playboy magazines and threw them in the trash. The next day he caught his son reading them! :-D

Hahaha… I could imagine your face as you said “NO!!!”… hahaha…!
You know… funny thing is that, after I surrendered it… I am not even looking for it at home. Galing ano?!

Oh, that shaved head pic is medyo outdated na… about few months ago… hehehe.

Yes, the DVDs and other pirated stuff had to be properly disposed of. Giving it away doesn’t help anyone and causes more sin.

I pray you gain the same resolve to do likewise in the future… :)
